Neighborhood Updates June 2019
Business District Developments
The GCCA's 48th and Spruce Street Business District Revitalization Committee received a small grant last fall from the City of Philadelphia to create a business directory to promote the nearly 40 merchants on the business corridor. The tri-fold color brochure was distributed throughout the neighborhood will be distributed at future events in the area.
GCCA Parklet Returns
GCCA is also pleased to announce that the University City District street-side parklet is once again installed for pedestrian use near the NE corner of 48th and Pine Streets adjacent to the Pine Street Laundromat. Game boards and game pieces are available inside the laundromat. Check it out!
Neighborhood Clean Ups
Friends of Barkan Park celebrated Love Your Park week in Barkan Park on Saturday, May 18, with a clean up and sweep up and flower planting event. Volunteers worked hard to clear the paths and mulch the trees and plant some lovely flowers to brighten up the park.

Candidates’ Forum and 2019 Elections
We had a wonderful turnout for our 2019 Candidates’ Forum on Thursday, April 4th. The evening was held at the Enterprise Center and despite the size of the space, it was standing room only as the residents of Garden Court, Walnut Hill, Cedar Park Neighbors and Cobbs Creek Parkway came out to hear the 3rd District candidates for City Council and the candidates for Council-at-Large seats present their positions for election.
We are also happy to report that Jamie Gauthier, Past President of Garden Court Community Association, won the primary to become the Democratic nominee for the 3rd District Council seat. Congratulations, Jamie!
