Garden Court Community Association leads the way on affordable housing!

The following is from Marie-Nahikian Seymour, one of GCCA's Representatives at the Philadelpha Crosstown Coalition of Civics

GCCA can take some credit for Mayor Parker's recent announcement to commit $36 million tothe Neighborhood Restorations initiative to preserve 925 units of affordable housing, many in our neighborhood.

GCCA was the first RCO to support the Neighborhood Restorations initiative. GCCA was able to present the request to Mayor Parker's at the Crosstown Coalition's Annual Meeting in June. The Crosstown Coalition passed this resolution of support at the same meeting.

"The Crosstown Coalition of Recognized Community Organizations (RCO's) supports the preservation of the existing affordable housing owned by Neighborhood Restorations and currently offered for sale to the City of Philadelphia. To the extent possible, the Crosstown Coalition supports the prevention of displacement of current residents and urges Mayor Parker to support this opportunity as part of the H.O.M.E. (Housing Opportunities Made Easy) Plan."

These are not all the funds needed. However with the City of Philadelphia's leadership & commitment of these significant initial funds other resources will follow - State, Federal, philanthropic and fundraising. This is a huge first step!!
